iPad 2 inventory in Taiwan could be cleaned out in a day: retailers
Apple Inc.’s iPad 2 tablet computer, which officially went on sale in Taiwan Friday, may sell out within a day based on the limited inventory of the device in Taiwan and strong demand, local chain retailers said Friday.
Apple’s main distributors in Taiwan — Studio A, DataExpress Infotech Co. and Tsann Kuen Enterprise Co. — began selling the popular gadget Friday at 11 a.m. and opened their doors to long lines of customers hoping to get their hands on it.
At one of Tsann Kuen’s Taipei stores, about 200 people were lined up an hour before it opened, waiting to buy Apple’s next-generation tablet PC that was first launched in the United States in March this year.
Those consumers were likely to be able to take an iPad2 Case home, said Tsann Kuen Vice President Steven Yen, but he believed the device would be completely sold out in a short period of time.
Local media has reported that Apple shipped 15,000 iPad 2′s to Taiwan in its first consignment of the product to the island, not enough to satisfy anticipated demand at local stores.
“We have 5,500 units of the iPad 2 in our 30 stores around the country, which is supposed to be the most among all retailers, ” Yen said.
“But we are still likely to run out of inventory in one day due to strong demand. In that case, consumers who want to buy the iPad 2 may have to wait until early June.”
Edward Liao, a spokesman for DataExpress, agreed with Yen’s assessment, though he would not disclose how many iPad 2 Covers were available in the company’s eight chain stores.
Liao said demand was particularly strong because the product’s launch date in Taiwan was close to its March launch in the United States, resulting in consumers being willing to wait to buy the official version rather than opting for a parallel import.
Taiwan was part of the fourth wave of the iPad 2′s global release. It was first released in the United States on March 11, in Europe on March 25 and then in major Asian markets such as Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore and China in late April.
According to Reuters, Apple’s iPad 2 Smart Cover sold 1 million units on its launch weekend in the U.S., reaching the milestone 10 times as quickly as the iPad 1.
Market analysts have estimated sales of the popular gadget this year at around 35 million to 40 million units, taking 70 percent of the worldwide tablet PC market.
Trident Aegis iPad 2 Case – Accessory Review
If you’re a fan of Trident’s Aegis case for the iPad and you’ve been waiting for the iPad 2 version to hit the shelves, you’re in luck. I recently received our PadGadget review unit and after several days of using it, I’m pleased with what it has to offer.
The updated Aegis case protects your Skull iphone 4 case on a number of fronts. A two part system includes a hard polycarbonate shell exterior and a flexible silicone interior to protect your device during everyday use. The black silicone insert fits snugly around your device to cushion and prevent scratches. A hard exterior shell (available in five color choices) follows, providing an additional layer of protection. All buttons are covered, while the headphone jack and silent/screen rotation lock switch have silicone tabs to open and close as necessary. The front and back facing cameras, as well as the docking port, are readily accessible via cutouts in the case. Worried about sound quality? The sound won’t be impeded by this case. Small holes were visible in the silicone lining during my installation and a series of slots in the shell help maintain the quality of sound output.
Getting your Monkey iphone 4 case into this case is easy. Just separate the two pieces of the Aegis and place the device inside the silicone portion first. Next, make sure all ports and buttons are lined up with the appropriate cutouts and button covers to insure proper function, and finally insert into the hard shell for its final layer of protection. Just a few quick minutes of proper installation will guarantee countless hours of protected use.
In addition to the typical features one expects from a case, the Aegis offers an added benefit – a built-in stand. Its kickstand style opens at the bottom back of the case and a small inside flap locks the stand in place to keep everything stable and prevent it from collapsing.
Purchasing the Aegis will get you the case, plus a couple of bonus items as well. Trident includes a scratch and smudge-resistant screen protector, in addition to a small microfiber cloth, to help customers maintain the pristine condition of their screen.
Trident’s Aegis Case is a nice option for people looking to protect their Paul Frank iphone 4 case. It’s easy to use, offers great protection and comes in a wonderful range of colors. Interested? It’s available for purchase on the Trident website now.
